Delphi, the navel of the earth.
The archaeological site of Delphi is one of the most important and richest in finds in Greece. Delphi, for centuries, was the religious and spiritual center of the ancient Greeks, as the Panhellenic sanctuary and the most important oracle of Ancient Greece was located there.
Pretty close is the beautiful Arachova and of course the Parnassos ski resort so you have everything you need for a perfect weekend getaway. According to mythology, the two eagles sent by Zeus to discover the center of the world met there!
Today, the site of Delphi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most popular destinations in our country due to the long history and importance of the oracle in ancient times, the unique historical and archaeological findings, the beautiful natural landscape at its foot Parnassos and of course the rich archaeological museum.
Excavations at the site were started by Germans in 1860, while in 1891 the reins were taken by the French, specifically the French school of Athens, in order to begin the “Great Excavation” in the area on which the village of Kastri was located, following the approval of the Greek government.
Kastri was eventually moved to where the current city of Delphi is located, just a few kilometers from the archaeological museum.
